Flat Roofing

A flat roof is a type of roofing design where the roof deck is almost level and does not have a pronounced slope. It is typically made of a waterproof membrane or multiple layers of materials, including a drainage layer, insulation, and a protective top layer.

There are several types of flat roofs, including:

  1. Built-Up Roof (BUR): This type of flat roof is made of multiple layers of asphalt or tar and is topped with a layer of gravel or rock.

  2. Modified Bitumen Roof: This type of flat roof is made of a reinforced, modified bitumen membrane and is applied to the roof deck.

  3. Single-Ply Membrane Roof: This type of flat roof uses a single layer of rubber or plastic membrane, such as EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer), PVC (polyvinyl chloride), or TPO (thermoplastic olefin).

  4. Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) Roof: This type of flat roof is made of a spray-applied foam that expands to form a seamless, monolithic layer.

  5. Green Roof: This type of flat roof is covered with vegetation and growing medium, providing insulation and reducing runoff.

  6. Rolled Roofing: This type of flat roof uses long sheets of asphalt-saturated material that are rolled out over the roof deck.

Flat roofs are considered to be one of the most energy-efficient roofing options available for homeowners.
